Another very nice late summer day with temperatures in the low seventies and a gentle breeze from the southwest tempted eight members to bring boats to the cove.

Judy looked after starting and scoring once again. Thank you, Judy.

Bill Raposa, Wes, and Wilkie also paid visits and Connie was there to support Al.

The wind was up to its usual tricks and varied in strength and direction but at least we kept to the same course. The start/finish line was formed by the drone buoy and the orange/blue mark. Head south from there and round the green/white and orange/white marks, then head north to the blue mark and back to the line. All marks were taken to port. We held six races and from race five the start line was changed by replacing the drone buoy with the yellow/red mark and we raced the same course twice around.

We had some close racing, which resulted in four different winners, but John won three races and with a second and third was easily today’s champion.

The other race winners were Greg, Paul and Rob. Rob also had two second places and one third place to finish second overall

While Bill David didn’t have a win today, he was second in two very close races and third in another two races, enough to clinch third this morning

Another day of racing for fun. very enjoyable.

The last DF95 race day of the season will be next Thursday, September 19th when the tide will be high at 09.30.

The Banquet will be entirely catered and paid for by the club, so bring nothing other than yourself, your wife or husband, or your significant other.

The Banquet will be held on Sunday, September 22nd at 6 pm in the Greatroom of the Village Clubhouse.

Sadly, It’s a Wrap on a Wonderful Season 9.30.25

On a non-scoring nice competitive day of sailing with again a tricky wind out of the North north East, it was both a fun and sad day as we close out the season. I for one really enjoyed my first season of racing with you all. Can’t wait to start it back up again sometime in May.

It was great to meet and greet the AMYA Region 1 Director Glenn Chalder. I “Will” be leaning on Glenn for insights that may help expand our club. And a big thanks for helping us pull the marks and getting things a shore.

Attached are the season final results. I did make adjustments to the sailors who only competed once or twice, so I backed them out.

Fokke with a really nice season, wins the overall season series. Bill David places 2nd, Greg 3rd.  All the best to our MHBMYC sailors going to Nationals Oct 15, 16, 17 in Newport for the DF95 class. The club has purchased a jacket with the MHBMYC logo for Fokke to wear proudly during Nationals! I also have a few hats with our logo for sale. I’ll have them in about 2 weeks.

Finally, a big Thanks for welcoming me into the club. Like I stated earlier, I had a lot of fun , I learned a ton about sailing, ( I now know what Starboard Tack means!, Thanks Fokke) and like Nick stated, we should socialize a little after sailing. We will work on that for next season.

Racing Results 9.23.95

We finally had a southerly breeze to contend with on Tuesday.

Markers were set, start to port blue mark, port to green, port to yellow and then back to finish.

We had a special sailing guest with us in Jim Pascalides. It was great seeing Jim and we wish him well in October’s regatta at Sail Newport. Fokke and Nick are also sailing in the National Regatta and we hope they have a great few days of racing.

Tuesday’s racing results had Fokke with 4 wins, Bill David with 2 wins, Jim Pascalides with a win, Greg with a win and 3 2nd place finishes. And Arlow Sampson with 1 nice win under his belt.

Nice day of sailing was had by all.

I am tallying up the season’s overall placing and we will announce the results after sailing on Tuesday September 30.

After that we will sadly pull the markers and put everything away for the season ending.

As most of MHBMYC Sailers go off to warmer destinations (or even those who stay and race in the chilly waters at Sail Newport), I would like for those to send me a “How they are doing” email during the off season so I can send out emails to everyone with those results. Just a way of keeping in touch.

And as usual a big Thank You to Judy and Connie for your help!

DF95 Racing. 9/16/25

All,

Another fun day with the Northeasterly breeze! Will we ever get a steady southwesterly breeze.

Fokka wins 6 of 8 races and takes first place overall. Greg with the other 2 wins to place second for the day.

Louis with a nice day comes in third after placing 2nd in race 6 breaks the third-place tie with Bill who comes in fourth.

Nick, Mike and Al all tie with 33 points but Nick takes 5 place with 2 second place finishes. Mike places 6th with 1 – 2nd place and Al rounds out the scoring.

September 23rd ends the yearlong scoring. Hope you all can make it.

I do plan on sailing September 30, but the scoring for the last day will not count. Rob and I plan on taking out the markers after racing and take the row boat to the shed for winter.

DF95 Racing 9/9/25

Seven seasoned sailors strategized swirling seabreezes, succom to Fokka.

 With a swirling northerly breeze around 8 knots with gusts around 15, Fokka wins 6 of the 10 races today and takes first place. Greg had a nice day winning 3 races and placing second for the day. Paul Mercer making a guest appearance (and we hope for some more) placed third. Bill David won 1 race  and finished fourth for today. Al, Mike and Louis rounded out todays scoring.

A big Thanks to Judy and Connie for scoring and time keeping. Bill David was today’s race director.

Let’s keep an eye on Tuesday September 16th’s weather forecast. Tides look like 0936 for low tide.

I would like to keep the season going to at least September 30th if we can keep enough sailors. We can discuss “When” to cut off the scoring for the season. I am thinking that we stay with the end of season scoring September 23 but continue sailing after for non-scoring races and maybe if anyone wants to race a Soling we could do that too.

DF95 Racing. 9/2/25

With a (Very) calm northerly breeze, 6 sailors were able to get 10 races in. The majority of the race courses were starting line, then due north to red buoy, starboard to yellow buoy, starboard to finish line. We wanted to make quick races due to the calm breeze.

Connie was the official scorer and to start the races, thank you Connie for your much needed help!

Fokka was the overall winner with 4 1st place finishes. BTW, Fokka did his best to try and let someone else win one race by going to the wrong buoy. If I remember correctly, he still found the wind and came in a close 2nd.

Greg came in 2nd with 3 1st place finishes. Nick came in 3rd with 2 1st place finishes. Rob had the other 1st place winner before his date with the dentist! Al and I did our best, but…..

DF95 Racing. 8/26/25

The tide reached its peak at just about 11 am, with a temperature in the low seventies, and a west wind at about 10 mph. Humidity was low, and it just felt like a comfortable late-summer day. A record eleven members thought so too, and brought their boats to the cove for some high-tide fun.

Our amazing helpers, Judy and Connie, were there as usual to keep score, start races, and do whatever else was necessary. Thank you both very much.

It was good to see members Pat Donovan and Bill Reposa, who came to spectate, and Shelley, who came to support Bill.

The DroneBuoy and the pin formed the east-west start line. The boats set off heading south to take the blue, then the green to port, head north to the pink/white, also to port, and back to the line.

The second race was twice around, but too many boats collected weed, so Rob took the dinghy and put in a red mark south of the pink/white. We then dropped the green mark from the course in the hope that the bulk of the weed would be avoided. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen so much so that Rob and Wes withdrew in frustration!

There were seven races with only two different winners: Nick was racing a different boat this week, with sail number 1738, and he notched up three, while Fokka won the other four. However, Nick added three second places to become today’s champion. Fokka was runner-up. 

Other second-place finishers were Rob, Al, Bill Northup, and Kim.

Greg had three third-place finishes, which gave him enough points to place third overall today. 

Other third places went to Kim, Mike, and Louis. Kim and Mike finished level on points, but Kim got fourth place today by virtue of his second-place finish. It was very unusual for Bill David not to finish in the top three in any race. I can’t remember it ever happening before

DF95 racing resumes next Tuesday, September 2nd, when the tide will be coming in towards a high at 2.21 pm, Kim and I will be in mid-Atlantic, and events will be in the very capable hands of Commodore Mike, ably assisted by Connie. Judy and Bill have another appointment.
